Website Changes: Explained

Let’s be real, it isn’t really necessary to give an explanation for the changes I made recently. Aesthetically speaking, there are a few things that still need to be done. And chances are, most of you won’t even remember what the original website looked like anyways. Then again, I don’t write out of necessity. So, I thought I’d go for it anyways. Read on if you want to know more.

First: The Domain Name / Homepage

Initially, I had purchased a domain using my name (www.ericharbin.com). There really wasn’t a need to change this. However, I wanted a domain that caught the purpose behind the blog rather than the who behind it. I am more concerned with the person you are becoming as a result of reading my blog than knowing that I wrote them. I would much rather you have the question (www.are-you-willing.com) going through your mind after walking away from the screen than my name, as awesome as it might be. However, I still felt it was necessary to have a “face behind the post” element.

Second: The About Page

Personally, I find it helpful to know the person who is impacting my life. For example, one of the reasons autobiographies have impacted my life so much is because there is a real person behind the story. I’m sure their story would still impact me in some way, but getting to know the person behind the story makes it much more meaningful to me. That is why I chose to keep a page dedicated to knowing the person behind the stories. I can only share so much of my life through the words of a webpage. Also, I should probably say that I don’t claim to have influence on your life. That is up for you to decide. But I’d be lying if I said I didn’t hope to. Because it isn’t me, Eric Harbin, that I want you to be influenced by. It is Jesus Christ living in and through me that I hope influences you. Jesus just chooses to work through real people to make His Name known. And I hope that He is made known through the life of Eric Harbin.

Last: The Network Page

The final change that I will talk about is an edit I made to the organizations I am affiliated with. Did I need to include these? Not really. Do I need to expand on them? Probably not. But I want you to know that I do not pursue holiness alone. John Wesley once said, “there is no holiness but social holiness.” The reality is, I pursue holiness with others outside these organizations as well. I have friends and family who are in the trenches as well. However, I thought it would be helpful to identify the few organizations I am personally involved in that are committed to a life of holiness as well. Truth is, there are several more than these. But these are my people. And I am happy to be associated with them. The other reason for including these organizations is the opportunities you can seek with each of them. I hope you check out their websites for more information.

One day, this website will be no more. One day, Eric Harbin will be gone from this earth. One day, these organizations will no longer be needed, One day, your life will be done as well.

My whole goal in starting this project, making recent edits, and continuing to see it through is so that you might take seriously the question that frames the whole of this project. As I have said before, and will probably say more times than you would like to hear, I leave you with this one question:

Are you willing?
